Round 5:Â 3 ch (count as first st), inc into the next st, (1dc, inc) to end, join with a ss into 3rd ch of 3ch(48)
Round 6:Â 3 ch (count as first stitch), inc into the next st, (1dc, inc) to end, join with a ss into 3rd ch of 3ch (72).
Border:
Round 7:Â (1sc, 5 ch, 1dc in 4th ch of 5ch, 1dc in 5th ch of 5ch, sc in the next 3 sc) to end.Â
If you would like your coaster to be slightly bigger, just add an extra round between round 6 and 7 (before making the border).
How to stiffen your coaster
Just mix well 1 part of white glue (any PVA based glue will do) with 1 part of cold water to make a stiffening solution. Now soak your crochet coaster in the stiffening solution for 2 to 4 minutes.Â
Then, squeeze out any excess liquid and stretch and pin your coaster onto the blocking board. Let the coaster air dry flat at room temperature, which might take up to 24 hours.Â
If you don’t have a blocking board, you can instead sandwich your coaster between two pieces of aluminium foil and set a heavy book on top. 😉Â
