Description
The Mineral Series of merino wool is colored using natural rocks and minerals from the Earth. These earthy dyes are 100% natural, eco-friendly, and used in natural cosmetics, making these yarns perfect for our skin.
This grey merino yarn is made using powdered graphite as a natural dye. Graphite is a carbon-based mineral, also used to make pencil cores. The graphite is finely powdered, mixed with natural resins and used to colour the yarn.
The resulting yarn has a beautiful variegated effect, leaving parts of the wool’s natural background color visible.
Our 100% natural dyeing process compacts and tights the wool fibre, which then blooms once it has been worked with the needles or hook, resulting in an extremely soft and warm finish. The colors are extremely color fast, even is a little excess pigment comes off during knitting/crocheting.
More about graphite
Graphite is a native element mineral commonly used in manufacturing pencils.
Graphite has also been reported to have many medicinal properties. It was one of the earliest remedies discovered by Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy.
The first recorded use of graphite as a form of healing was by Dr. Weinhold, who observed mirror factory workers in Venice (Italy) applying graphite powder externally to cure skin conditions. Since then, graphite has been shown to be an excellent homeopathic remedy for eczema and dry or cracked skin.
